Hormone imbalance can cause a lot of health problems, such as a lowered sex drive or an inability to orgasm. (Yikes!)
And unfortunately balanced hormones are desperately needed to participate in this “spicy” joyride.

1. What is a hormone imbalance?

“Testosterone production typically decreases with age. According to the American Urological Association, about 40 percent of males ages 45 and older have low testosterone.”
Wait a minute!
These medical quotes contradict your statement.
How??
Saying, that “men and women Don’t suffer the same issues.”
‘Cause it seems to me that this biological assailant attacks both men and women around the same time.
You’re right!
However, the symptoms are a mixed bag.
Some things we share, while others are night and day.
Think of it like this: when you’re born you are full of life and reach your peak late teens, early to mid 20’s ish…
You reaching your “peak” is like receiving a gash near your vital organs – which leaks your vitality.
Your testosterone or Estrogen diminishes.
This crisis only becomes noticeable in our late 30’s and 40’s
But who knows when the knife wound started.
Yeah, I know the “medical facts” are staring you down but I don’t believe we ought to just give up.
There are solutions…
But what are the symptoms?
2. Symptoms of a hormone imbalance
This time we will start with the men.
Low sex drive can indicate low testosterone.
(Of course, both men and women have this issue as they age).
I say Can because it’s typical for libido or sexual desire to decrease as we age but it’s a cliff dive for someone with Low T.
I also said “Can” because you can’t always blame it on low Testosterone, (like you do with alcohol).
A few other major symptoms include:
Cognitive decline, memory loss, and depression are just the tip of the iceberg. It’s enough to alter your lifestyle.
As stated by the Abbey Neuropsychology Clinic, symptoms of cognitive decline are:
“Forgetting appointments and dates
Forgetting recent conversations and events
Feeling increasingly overwhelmed by making decisions and plans.”
Now, now ladies…don’t point and laugh at the men. You’re not coming out of this any better.
For you, it’s irregular unexpected periods, issues with fertility and thyroid disorders.
(this again is a small fraction of the symptoms.)
Madison Women’s Health declares, “A period is considered irregular when it occurs more often than before or less often than before, or if the amount and duration of bleeding has changed significantly for repeated months.”
This is just naming a few…
Just like leaving essential repairs to your car unchecked. It leads to catastrophic mechanical failure, your body is no different.
Which leads to the causes.
3. What causes a hormone imbalance
According to Core Medical & Wellness:
“Activity level, dietary choices and genetics,” can also play a role.
Changes in activity level are crucial. As children, we were at our healthiest, (besides having crazy metabolism) because we were Moving!
And of course…diet is just as critical.
However, when it comes to genetics, it is mostly out of our hands.
According to Mayoclinic.org, an oophorectomy, which is a procedure that removes the ovaries:
“Surgery to remove your ovaries causes immediate menopause.”
Bet you’re wondering, why in the Hell would you have to remove your ovaries??
(or maybe you’re not wondering…you already know.)
To reduce the risk of ovarian cancer…
And this falls back on genetics because no one is able to determine the cause.
Another thing that can cause disharmony to hormones is prolonged stress.
According to Verywell Mind, “prolonged stress, also known as chronic stress, is a long-term physiological response that can have serious health consequences if it is not treated. The impact of prolonged stress can include both physical and mental health conditions.”
Stress triggers our fight or flight responses. This is a wonderful gift if you’re in danger. It is detrimental to your physical and mental health, if there is no danger but chronic stress is constant.

Even if the danger were real, remaining in this constant state of arousal leaves life-altering scars on the mind.
This is the cause of PTSD in military personnel who have had long exposure to war.
Now that we’ve been informed of the symptoms and causes, what are our solutions?
4. Hormone replacement therapy
Well, according to Healthline, “ Hormone replacement therapy is a bit of a misnomer. It’s natural for men’s testosterone levels to decrease as they get older. (Wait…is there an echo in here?) So, hormone therapy doesn’t replace anything that is naturally missing.”
Hmmm, I wonder about this…just throwing this out there but I wonder if it’s the food we eat, even if it is “healthy”
According to Webmed.com
Lowering testosterone in older men “Isn’t” normal and is a mark of illness, like cardiovascular issues that lead to heart attacks.
And besides helping with cardiovascular issues…
Regular exercise can help regulate both estrogen and testosterone levels. It’s the complete opposite when you overdo it, not allowing your body to recover.
Moderation is key.
Of course you can’t expect results in the gym with a poor diet.
Here are some foods that can restore and balance both estrogen and testosterone:
Medical News Today declares, “People [men] with low testosterone may be able to raise their levels by eating certain foods, such as ginger, fatty fish, and some vegetables.”
Also found in
shellfish, red meat, poultry, beans, nuts
To naturally produce estrogen and reduce hot flashes, Clevelandclinic.org suggests:
“Phytoestrogens are plant-based estrogens. Some studies suggest that eating foods that contain phytoestrogens helps with menopause symptoms”
Examples of these foods are:
Legumes (soybeans, lentils, chickpeas, peanuts).
Seeds (flaxseed, sunflower seed). Etc.
I am certain most of these ingredients aren’t total strangers to you.
It’s just a matter of including them in your routine.
Including these foods in your diet can help your BMI or Body Mass Index. Studies have shown that a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is the “sweet spot”.
This is true not only for looks (hint..hint) but the maintenance of both testosterone and estrogen.
